Goldwater Lake

One of Prescott's Best Fishing Lakes

Goldwater LakeGoldwater Lake is one of Prescott's finest! This 15-acre lake offers plenty of recreational activities including a sand volleyball court and large covered ramada.

To get to the lake, take the Mount Vernon (Old Senator Hwy) turnoff from Gurley Street. Follow it back a few miles and you'll see a sign to Goldwater Lake on your right.

There is a playground area for the kids, picnic table and BBQ grills. One of the nice features of Goldwater Lake is the placement of park benches all around the lake.

Fishing at Goldwater Lake

There are fish still in the lake though including:

  • Rainbow trout
  • Bass
  • Catfish
  • Bluegill
  • Sunfish
  • Crawdads (many locals catch and eat 'em!)

Parking

Despite the increase of parking fees at Prescott's other lakes, parking at Goldwater lake remains $2 for the day. Like Lynx Lake, this lake is very popular during summer months and holidays and parking become very challenging (or impossible).

Boats

There is a small paved boat ramp for you take your own small boat out on the lake (no gas motors). A single electric motor is allowed. During the warmer season, you can also rent kayaks and canoes at the lake.

Lake Rules

The following are NOT PERMITTED Goldwater Lake:

  • Wading (for people, fly fishers and dogs)
  • Swimming
  • Float Tubes (where you're feet touch the water - this means you can't use the floating pontoon boats or tubes where your legs typically dangle in the water while you fish).

Pets must be kept on a leash at all times. Dogs are not allowed to wade in the water.

Handicap Access

The lake does have a handicap area for fishing (picnic tables come and go in the area). This area is dirt though with slight slopes. It's also where the boat ramps are, so you have to watch for cars with boat trailers when in the area.

Hiking

There is a nice trail that goes around the lake (although you can't make a complete circle). It should also be noted that mountain lions are in the area and so you should pay especially close attention to small children and dogs!

Camping

No overnight camping is allowed.

Facilities

The following amenities can be found at Goldwater Lake:

  • Bathrooms (no flush)
  • Picnic areas (including one large Ramada)
  • BBQ grills
  • Vending machines for soda
  • Playground for kids
  • Sand volleyball court
  • Hiking Trails (so you can enjoy a walk around the lake)
