Drift Fence Lake

One of the Many Lakes on the White Mountain Apache Reservation

 

Drift Fence LakeDrift Fence Lake is located in the White Mountains of Arizona. It's one of the lakes on the White Mountain Apache Reservation.

Sitting at an elevation of 8,000 feet, this 16 acre lake is normally open mid-May through the Labor Day Holiday. You can camp, boat, and fish at Drift Fence Lake.

Located just south of Greer, you can get to the lake by taking Highway 260 to Highway 273 (Sunrise Lake Turnoff). The lake is on Reservation Route 20.

 

Fishing at Drift Fence Lake

Since the lake is on Indian land, you will need a tribal fishing permit to fish the lake.

Float tubes are allowed on the lake, and as long as you don't have a motor on it, you won't need a tribabl boating permit.

The lake is stocked with rainbow trout in the summer and brook trout in the fall.

 

Boats

Special boating permits are required and can be purchased from the White Mountains Fish and Game Department (contact information below).

 

Lake Rules

The following are NOT PERMITTED Drift Fence Lake:

  • All Terrain (ATVs) including 3 & 4 wheelers and dirt bikes are strictly prohibited on the Reservation. Golf Carts are also prohibited (even if registered).
  • Swimming

 

Camping

There a total of 10 campsites at the lake (trailers can be accommodated). Camping permits are required. Stays are limited to 10 days.
