Discover the Best Fishing Holes in Arizona - including those NOT LISTED on the Arizona Fish & Game Web!Dear Arizona Fisher!
Are you looking for the best fishing spots in Arizona? Then you've come to the right place! I've been fishing all of my life and have been an Arizona resident for over 20 years! Fishing is one of my favorite pass-times! There is a lot of great fishing in Arizona (we're not just cactus and tumbleweeds). Arizona offers several species of fish you can enjoy catching including pike, walleye, bass, apache trout, and more!
Shhh ... It's a Secret! The Arizona Fish and Game web site contains a lot of valuable information about fishing in Arizona. But the site can be time-consuming to weed through, and it doesn't list ALL of the fishing spots in Arizona. I have to admit, as an avid angler, I too am a bit reluctant to share certain fishing holes with folks. I mean after all, some of our more popular spots have become over-crowded - taking some of the relaxation and serenity out of fishing. There are a few fishing spots which are still not known by many and I myself continue to enjoy these little known hot spots. But this site is about helping people get the most out of Arizona fishing, so I decided to divulged some of our best kept secrets on some fishing holes. Just promise me you won't tell anybody else!
Fishing Experiences Unique to ArizonaArizona also offers some unique fishing experiences you won't find any where else. Arizona is home to two native trout species - the apache and gila trout. You will not find apache trout anywhere else in the world. And although gila trout are native to New Mexico as well as Arizona, you'd be hard pressed to find one there. New Mexico has closed its waters containing pure strains of gila trout - and it's unlawful to posses a gila trout in New Mexico. Both the apache and gila trout are on the Federal Endangered List and so are protected fish - but anglers can enjoy fishing for them under certain restrictions.
Plenty of Lake, River, & Stream FishingWhile Arizona does have a lot man-made lakes which are stocked with trout, we have some of the finest natural lakes and rivers too. Mormon Lake is actually the largest natural lake in Arizona. And the Colorado River flows throughout Arizona - offering great fishing opportunities to all - resident and visitor alike! If you love the outdoors and plenty of sunshine, Arizona offers year round fishing opportunities. Whether you're a fly fisher or a spin-fisher, there are great angling experiences to be had. It's true our summers can present challenges to catching fish (especially in the lower elevations). But catching fish is still possible even in the hottest months - if you know what to do! And most Arizonans will tell you that day outdoors without catching any fish is still rewarding.
Come 'Round Again!Arizona is a big state with lots of great fishing holes - so it will take a while to make this site as complete as we'd like. So you might want to check back often for updates.
